Charlotte set up Broken Illusion Pictures in 2021 after feeling the recurring effects of being typecast as an actor and never feeling fulfilled in the roles she had portrayed.

Charlotte moved to Manchester in 2018 to study at the University of Salford Business School, where she gained a 2:1 Bachelor of Science degree in International Events Management and Business. She did this whilst actively working as an actor. Once she completed her degree, Charlotte felt she shouldn't have to be living in the city to get work as a creative, so she decided to start writing films that showcased 'home', the North East and provided opportunities for other creatives living in the region.

 

Now, 3 years in, Broken Illusion Pictures continues to advocate for the voices less heard. Focusing on female-led stories, mental health and social issues; the company produces work showcasing the beauty of the north through its locations whilst ensuring that a minimum of 75% of cast and crew are from the North of England in their sole developed projects.
